20th January the Cubs were being tested with a one-night survival camp at Raby. We arrived at the site for 10 am after having to drive onto the estate past the castle as our normal entry route had a tree down across the track.
The castle was beautiful with the Snow covering it and the surrounding area. Once we arrived at the cabin George got the mini bus stuck but Alex another leader soon arrived with his Land Rover and pulled it out and then cut the tree up that was blocking the track. The cubs then moved into the cabin as it was far too cold to sleep in tents (leaders had to make do with tents though)!!!! and it was the coldest camping night the GSL and Cub Leader had ever experienced! the Saturday was filled with survival tasks such as cooking on the fire, fire lighting and a walk to the Roman Baths Witches Cottage and Castle.
Sunday, we were all up early and off to York to see Tim Peake’s Space Capsule at The National Railway Museum. After fighting our way to the front to see it we decided it looked like something from Shildon wagon works but impressive all the same! Then Packed lunches were eaten before a look around the rest of the museum before the obligatory visit to the gift shop then home. everyone had an amazing camp and not one moan of being cold! well maybe from the GSL ….
