Beamish Flag Day

Date: 20th May 2024 Author: GEORGE CAMPBELL-WILSON

Saturday the 18th of may a group of Squirrels, Beavers and cubs travelled to beamish for the day to celebrate Flag day.
Flag Days were held during the First World War to raise money for causes including support for soldiers on the front line, prisoners of war and disabled servicemen, and every year Beamish recreate these days.
The weather was very kind to us, if anything it was too kind, it was sweltering, but a fantastic day was had by all.
Big thanks to Lee and Michaela, who gave the organisers a telling off for not mentioning Squirrels in the thank you’s at the end of the ceremony, resulting in a personal visit to the group by Lord Lieutenant of Durham Sue Snowdon.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
