Beaver Camp 2019

Date: 14th May 2019 Author: Richard Smith

Our first Beaver Camp at the Cabin for 2019! and what an amazing camp it was!

Friday night the Beavers walked onto the site and helped set up camp. They had a sing song around the campfire before supper and bed! Saturday all were up early VERY EARLY …… SUPER EARLY!!! anyway breakfast was eaten beavers washed up and then J. O. T. T. ! (Jamboree On The Trail)

The Second Saturday of May every year Scouters from all around the world put on hiking boots and go for a walk to celebrate the family of Scouting! our Cubs & Scouts were walking with the district in Darlington but our Beavers were not going to miss out so hiked to The Magnificent Raby Castle!

They found the ancient magical Punch Tree then onto the Roman Baths where they evaded the curse of Lord Barnard by walking thru the middle of the building and not around! they met the Ghost who knocked hello and goodbye to them!

Taylor was extremely brave and knocked on the White Witches Cottage door but she wasn’t in so maybe next time we will meet her! then onto the Famous Deer Park of Raby where we learned about the Pink Russian Speckled backed Alligators that were running lose meaning we had to watch out in case they decided a Beaver Scout looked like a tasty snack!

We all arrived safe at the Castle and had a Picnic in the rain! the clouds cleared the sun shone and we tackled the adventure playground and play park. Once we had walked back to The Cabin the Beavers had some free time before craft and a film then bed!

Sunday the Beavers made bivvies in the woods and learned that when they are in Cubs and Scouts, they can sleep in them! they also learned some knots and made some bug hotels to help the creatures and critters of raby! Then a walk back to Staindrop ready for home and bed!
Well done to Lisa & Emma our fantastic Beaver leaders who organised the amazing camp and thank you to the other leaders who attended to help with the camp
