Christmas Camp 2017

Date: 1st Dec 2017 Author: Richard Smith

Friday 1st December the Beavers Cubs and Scouts arrived at Heathfield School for the annual Group Christmas Camp.  Sleeping in classrooms and having the luxury of flushing toilets & warm heating we settled in and started to decorate the school.  The Friday Group tradition of making the longest paper chain was well underway and out of the 3 teams Robin’s team were declared the winner… eventually after lots of protest re measuring and cheating.  The group then played some party games had supper and settled down for the night.

Saturday, we jumped onto the minibuses and headed to The Life Centre at Times Square in Newcastle and everyone went ice skating.   Lots of crashing into the barrier falling over and holding hands later everyone had a great time and enjoyed it.  We then headed into the Life Centre for Hot Chocolate and Cookies.  Everyone then had a look around the centre and had a go on the 4D ride and explored the dinosaur exhibit, we may have some budding scientists in the making as many get involved in the hands-on experiences.  After the Life Centre we all headed for Wet N Wild and had fun on the flumes and in the wave pool.  It was also a chance for a mid-camp bath!  Once we returned to the school we had Christmas Dinner and then some free time before more party games and a Christmas classic ‘Home Alone 2’

Sunday was just as busy as we all descended on Moorhouse Scout Adventure Centre and completed various activities like crate stacking bush craft and cooking and archery.  After a long weekend we arrived back at the school and said goodbye to everyone after a fantastic and very busy weekend.

Put your phone down and what are you left with? Just teamwork, courage and the skills to succeed.’
