Roseberry Topping Hike

Date: 20th Feb 2018 Author: Richard Smith

The Scouts were tasked to plan, prepare and execute a fundraising event to raise some funds to purchase some new tents for the Group.  So sunday 19th February 14 Scouts 6 leaders and the DC headed to the Eston Hills for a circular sponsored hike to Captain Cooks Monument round to Roseberry Topping! There is an old saying in that part of the world ‘When Roseberry Topping wears a cap, let Cleveland then beware of a clap!’

As we exited the bus Roseberry Topping was certainly wearing a cap! and a murky cold day was what we expected but just as we got to the top of Eston Nab where Cook’s monument sits the rain and murk disappeared and a lovely spring day arrived.  The Scouts made good progress and did the 8 miles in 5 hours with 2 dinner stops and a few breaks in between.  The ground was muddy really really muddy but everyone made it round and the sense of achievement from everyone not just the Scouts made the day for us all!  Initial counts and we think the Scouts have raised well over £500 pounds again something to be very proud of!  Well done to everyone.

Put your phone down and what are you left with? Just teamwork, courage and the skills to succeed.’
