Sausage Hike

Date: 13th Apr 2023 Author: Richard Smith

Good Friday means one thing for members of the 7th and that’s Sausage Hike! Every year all members of the group from Squirrels to Scouts with Explorers from Eastbourne Sea Explorers hiked into the group’s campsite The Cabin on Raby Estate.

This year has to be one of the best attended with siblings and other family members attending the fun day.  Everyone arrived ready for flag break and rule then packed lunch before the activities started. The young people collected wood from the forest floor for the campfire.  We then played games in the forest, collected hidden easter eggs and completed an obstacle course in teams. The final task was to collect the Raby Pounds to find out who the winning team was.

Everyone then enjoyed some smores cooked on the fire and a sausage to end the day. As quick as the day began it was time to hike out of the estate and back to Staindrop for the journey home.

Sausage Hike is fantastic event enjoyed by everyone and gives parents and new members a chance to see the cabin before they attend their first camp.  Its also great to twist arms of parents and supporters to get more involved in the group as we are always grateful and in need of more adult helpers! If you would like to volunteer, please email the group manager Richard Smith gsl@7thdarlingtonseascouts.org.uk
