District Squirrel Sleepover

Date: 14th Mar 2023 Author: Richard Smith

The first Squirrel Sleepover was held at the Hurworth Scout hall with groups from the 7th 11th and 21st attending.  We had 32 little squirrels who were very excited and equally nervous as for many this was the first time they had slept away from home.

Everyone settled in and the games begun! Lots of fun and excitement in the hall followed by a campfire with hot dogs and smores. Then everyone back inside for a dance off to Disney before settling down to bed.

Everyone was up bright and early and after our lovely breakfast of cereal and sausages we did some exercises and danced again.  The lovely people from South Durham Society of Model Engineers opened the ride on train and all the young people really enjoyed having a turn. The camp ended with a play in the park and every Squirrel being awarded their first Nights Away badge!

It was a fantastic event, and all the leaders are planning the next one already!

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
